Market Timing (21 Mar 2006) Every broker and financial planner will tell you that you cannot time the stock market. I saw John Bogle, the great seer of Vanguard, on CNBC saying it can't be done. Of course, it is easy to understand why he and every other mutual fund manager would say that as they would have a problem managing huge inflows and outflows of money and he was buying and holding during the 18-year bull from 1982 to 2000.
Market timing with your mutual funds (30 May 2006) When investing in bonds, stocks, or mutual funds, investors have the opportunity to increase their rate of return by timing the market - investing when stock markets go up and selling before they decl...
Market Timing? (21 Mar 2006) The recent criminal fiasco in the mutual fund industry is being used by Wall Street to persuade investors that market timing is a bad thing. The late trading by Janus, Bank America and several other well known mutual funds is falsely being called market timing.
Mid-Cap Stocks: Asset Class with an Identity Crisis (21 Mar 2006) Much like the middle child, mid-cap stocks have long struggled to find their identity. Money, Insanity and Wall Street (21 Mar 2006) For some, the process of trading is like the development of an addiction, it starts with expectations, with hopes of a relief, with desire to control money or acquire more of it. Soon, it starts turning into an obsession.
More Window Dressing (21 Mar 2006) Two weeks ago I wrote about what the Securities and Exchange Commission was doing to regulate the mutual fund industry to help the small investor, the "poor folks". It really added up to zero.
Mortgages. An interest only mortgage: it could cost you more (10 Aug 2006) Over 200,000 homebuyers in London during 2005 took out an interest-only loan according to the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML). None of whom had a repayment vehicle in place and of these, 60,900 were first-time buyers. There are no figures available f.......
